This really isn't a guide, but rather a quick write up on a piece of software that I am in love with.
I have always wanted a way to remotely access my home files securely. I also thought it would be neat if I could give access to my friends and family as well. I could have used FTP, but then I might have needed to also teach them how to use an FTP client. I wanted something simple that only needed to be set up once. The answer to this is LogMeIns Hamachi.
This program, once installed on my home computer, will create a VPN (Virtual Private Network). After the installation, all I had to do was create a "network" within the Hamachi software. Then, I just install the Hamachi software on any remote computer, join the "network" I created, and that's it. Now, when I go to My Computer, and look at all of the networked computers, I will have access to whatever computer is on the Hamachi "network" I created. Anything that is shared on the computer, whether it be files, printers or even copiers, it's all there.
You will need to create a free account with LogMeIn in order to download the software. The good news is, once you register you have access to all of their free products.
